ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The theme for the 2022 SASNM Masterclass is “Update in Theranostics in Neuroendocrine Tumours and Prostate Cancer”. The programme will be facilitated by international and local nuclear medicine physicians, radiologists, and oncologists.
Sub-theme: Neuroendocrine Tumours | Co-ordinator: Mariza Vorster
We will kick off the session on neuroendocrine tumours by obtaining perspectives from various clinician experts (a surgeon, an oncologist, and an endocrinologist) who are involved in the day-to-day management of patients. This will set the stage for reflecting on the role of nuclear medicine in both the detection and treatment of neuroendocrine tumours.
Sessions (the sessions on neuroendocrine tumours are scheduled for Friday late morning and afternoon):
Neuroendocrine tumours: an oncology perspective | Waldemar Szpak
An endocrinologist’s perspective on NET | Joel Dave
NET from a surgeon’s perspective | Graham Stapleton
Overview of NM imaging in NET | Mariza Vorster
PRRT in NET | Vikas Prasad
In-depth discussion | Mariza Vorster, Vikas Prasad
Clinical cases for multidisciplinary discussion | Bawinile Hadebe, Joel Dave, Graham Stapleton, Vikas Prasad
Sub-theme: Prostate Cancer | Co-ordinator: Mike Sathekge
With prostate cancer being a hot topic in the nuclear medicine and molecular imaging domain, we will start off with experts in the multidisciplinary team who will engage the audience on where prostate cancer care is heading in their respective disciplines. This will be followed by a reflection on nuclear medicine and molecular imaging in prostate cancer care, both from the imaging and therapy aspects. Following a structured discussion, a review on the complementary role of prostate cancer care will be undertaken by our local and international experts in a multidisciplinary discussion with input and engagement from all attendees.
Finally, a series of interesting and challenging patient cases will be presented for multidisciplinary management discussions and interaction between audience and panel.
Sessions (the sessions on prostate cancer are scheduled for Saturday late morning and afternoon):
Prostate cancer landscape | Shingai Mutambirwa
Unmet needs in treatment of prostate cancer | Greg Hart
Current update on prostate cancer imaging | Ken Herrmann
In depth discussion | Shingai Mutambirwa, Greg Hart, Ken Herrmann
Lu PSMA in metastatic prostate cancer | Vikas Prasad
PSMA-based alpha therapy in advanced prostate cancer | Mike Sathekge
Combination therapies in management of prostate cancer | Shingai Mutambirwa, Greg Hart, Ken Herrmann, Vikas Prasad, Mike Sathekge
Future perspectives in prostate cancer theranostics | Ken Herrmann
Sub-theme: Medical Physics |Co-ordinator: Tumelo Moalosi
The medical physics aspects of the programme will cover the regulatory requirements for setting up a new department for theranostics and the radiation protection thereof. We will also cover the dosimetry workflow for clinical set up determination of camera sensitivity for quantification. Additionally, we will look at the calculation algorithms and the software available, commercially and non-commercially, and their quality control aspects.
Sessions (the sessions on medical physics are scheduled for Friday morning and Saturday morning):
Setting up and radiation protection for staff (SAHPRA) | Tumelo Moalosi
Relevance of dosimetry in a clinical set up | Robert Hobbs
Clinical dosimetry workflow | Manuel Bardiès
Camera calibration for quantitative SPECT dosimetry | Tumelo Moalosi
Absorbed dose algorithm/calculations | Robert Hobbs
Dosimetry practical aspects | Michael Mix
Quality assurance and standardisation of clinical dosimetry | Gunjan Kayal
CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) POINTS
Masterclass attendees can earn Level 1 CPD/CME points (up to 15 Clinical points) for attendance. Presenters can earn 2 Clinical points per hour presenting. The Masterclass is accredited by the South African Medical Association (SAMA) for Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)-registered medical professionals. Attendees who are not registered with the HPCSA can have their attendance certificate converted at their respective councils. Naturally, tracking and certification of points is simply managed on site.
